Fraud happens each and every day and can happen to anyone, even in North Dakota and Minnesota. Here at FCCU, we want to help educate our members and make sure you are protected.

Scam of the Month: Imposters Posing as FTC & U.S. Marshals

We’ve received multiple reports from members who have been targeted by imposter scams. Scammers are calling and pretending to be from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) or the U.S. Marshal Service, threatening arrest or legal trouble unless you transfer money or provide personal information.

Important Reminders:

  • Hang up immediately if someone calls claiming to be from these agencies.
  • Never share personal information or financial details over the phone with an unknown caller.
  • Do NOT call phone numbers that pop up on your screen warning you of suspicious activity or claiming you’re in trouble.
  • Federal agencies will never ask you to move or transfer your money, or threaten you over the phone.

Both the FTC and U.S. Marshals have issued public warnings about these scams:

Stay alert. Protect yourself. And please share this with friends and family — especially those who may be more vulnerable.

If you’re unsure about a call you received, contact us directly. We’re here to help!
